Fine-tune poll behavior with advanced options
Voting Settings#
Configure how voters interact with your poll.
Allow Vote Change
Default: ON. When enabled, voters can change or retract their votes anytime.
- Voters can switch to a different option
- Click the same option again to retract
- Useful when opinions may evolve
When disabled: First vote is final, no changes allowed.
Show Live Results
Default: ON. When enabled, results update in real-time with each vote.
- Bar charts refresh immediately
- Voters see current vote distribution
- Creates transparency and engagement
When disabled: Results hidden until poll closes.
- Prevents bandwagon effects
- Useful for sensitive decisions
- Results revealed when poll closes
Anonymous Voting
Default: OFF. When enabled, voter identities are hidden from all results.
- Only vote counts shown, no names
- Voter IDs stored for deduplication
- Creator cannot see who voted for what
- Perfect for sensitive feedback or decisions
Interaction Settings#
Allow Adding Options
Available for single choice and multi-select polls only. When enabled, voters can suggest new options.
- An 'Add Option' button appears on the poll
- Voters click it to suggest a new choice
- New options are added to the poll immediately
- Useful when the creator might miss options
Send Reminders
Default: OFF. When enabled, Askify DMs non-voters before the poll closes.
- Sent 1 hour before close (short polls) or 24 hours (long polls)
- Only sent to channel members who haven't voted
- Includes a link back to the poll
- One reminder per user per poll
Poll Description#
Add optional context or instructions below your poll question.
- Multiline text field in poll creation modal
- Displays below the question in the poll message
- Included in results DM and shared results
- Saved in templates for reuse
Use descriptions to:
- Provide context or background
- Explain option meanings
- Give voting instructions
- Link to related documents
Emoji Support#
Use Slack emoji codes in poll questions and options.
Examples:

- Works in questions, options, and descriptions
- All Slack emoji codes supported
- Custom workspace emoji also work
Auto-Prefix Emojis
Askify automatically adds visual indicators to options:
- Single choice / multi-select: Number emojis (1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣...)
- Yes/No/Maybe: Action emojis (✅ ❌ 🤷)
- Rating scale: Star emojis (⭐ ⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐...)
- Vote buttons show emoji only for cleaner UI
Best Practices#
- Use anonymous voting for sensitive feedback or performance reviews
- Disable live results to prevent groupthink on important decisions
- Enable reminders for critical polls with low initial participation
- Add descriptions when options need explanation or context
- Allow adding options when brainstorming or gathering ideas
- Disable vote changes for formal votes or final decisions
