Scheduling & Auto-Close

Schedule polls for future posting and configure auto-close

Scheduled Polls#

Schedule polls to be posted at a future date and time. Perfect for recurring check-ins, weekly polls, or timed announcements.

How to Schedule

  1. Open the poll creation modal with /askify
  2. Configure your poll (question, type, options, settings)
  3. Under 'Post Timing', select 'Schedule for later'
  4. Choose date and time using the datetime picker
  5. Click 'Create Poll'

The poll will be posted automatically at the scheduled time. You'll receive a DM confirmation with the scheduled time displayed in your local timezone.

Auto-Close Methods#

Configure how and when your poll closes. Choose from three methods:

Manual Close

You close the poll manually when ready. A 'Close Poll' button appears in your creator DM.

  • Full control over close timing
  • No automatic closure
  • Best for polls with uncertain timelines

Duration-Based

Poll closes automatically after a specified duration (e.g., 2 hours, 3 days).

Examples:
- 30m: 30 minutes
- 2h: 2 hours
- 24h: 1 day
- 3d: 3 days
  • Countdown timer shown in poll message
  • Closes automatically when time expires
  • Best for time-sensitive decisions

Date/Time-Based

Poll closes at a specific date and time.

  • Pick exact close moment
  • Displayed in each voter's local timezone
  • Best for deadline-based polls

Reminders#

Enable reminders to DM non-voters before the poll closes, boosting participation.

How Reminders Work

  • Askify DMs channel members who haven't voted yet
  • Smart timing: 1 hour before close for short polls, 24 hours for longer polls
  • Includes a deep link back to the poll message
  • Only sent once per poll per user

Enabling Reminders

In the poll creation modal, check the 'Send Reminders' checkbox under voting settings.

Managing Scheduled Polls#

View and manage scheduled polls using /askify list:

  • Scheduled polls show with a 'Scheduled' badge
  • See the scheduled post time
  • Cancel button removes the scheduled poll before it posts
  • Cannot edit scheduled polls (cancel and recreate instead)

Timezone Handling#

All times are displayed in each user's local timezone thanks to Slack's datetime formatting:

  • Scheduled post times show in your timezone
  • Close times adapt to each viewer's timezone
  • Consistent experience across global teams
